Physical copies will be shipped out in April after the series concludes. Limited quantities are available to purchase via Screen Slate, other pre-orders can be made by directly contacting Ayanna Dozier (@dozierayanna) with a handful of copies available to buy onsite at Anthology Film Archives from April 4th-6th.
Guest-programmed by Ayanna Dozier and co-presented with Screen Slate, “Women, Workers, & Whores on Film,” (April 4th-10th) gathers movies from the late 20th century and early 21st century – many of them made by sex workers – to present an alternative collection of narrative and experimental moving-image works that resist the same old tired ethics around sex work commonly found in independent and mainstream films.
In dialogue with the series, Ayanna Dozier and Screen Slate present: “Women, Workers, & Whores on Film: A Zine on the Labor of Sex.” The Zine gathers responses to select films by writers Natasha Gornik, Elsepth Walker, Lauren Levitt, Lena Chen, and Zalika U. Ibaorimi and is limited to 100 copies.
Writers Natasha Gornik and Kassandra Sparks will join Ayanna in post-screening dialogues following the April 5th shorts program and the April 6th screening of Mano Destra and Kissy Suzuki Suck respectively. Ayanna will introduce the series with opening remarks before the April 4th screening of Girl 6 and Nightwalker.
Please check Anthology Film Archives for exact screening times.
Several film responses were edited by Nicolas Pedrero-Setzer for Screen Slate with the others produced specifically for the zine and edited by Ayanna Dozier unless otherwise noted. Cover designed by Christl Stringer.
